Image Library Information

The images in the library represent a significant portion of the work that Lizzie has produced over the last fifteen years. All of the illustrations that you see are undertaken in pencil, pen and ink or in watercolour. Lizzie does not use a computer to create any work but she does undertake layout work using industry standard software.

The collection of images in the library will grow steadily as new work is produced. If you don't see the image that you want in the library please contact us with details of what you require. We would be pleased to quote for an original piece of work and it might cost less than you think.

Please click on the headings below for detailed information about how to use the Image Library.

Registering takes just a few moments. Simply click on the 'Register' link in the image library navigation menu and enter your information. Your account will be activated immediately, and you can use the advanced features of the website, including sending e-postcards, purchasing images and saving your lightboxes.

Searching For Images

All of the images are stored in a set of galleries eg. Botanical, Birds, Mammals etc. Some of these galleries are in turn sub-divided when the content of that gallery would otherwise be too varied. eg. the Invertebrate gallery is sub-divided into Crustacea, Beetles, Butterflies & Moths etc. This allows browsing at quite a detailed level.

More specific searching is available using the built-in search engine. Keywords can be entered on their own or in combination with the boolean operators, AND, OR, NOT and (). For example, searching for dog AND cat will return images with both of the keywords dog and cat, while a search for dog OR cat will return any image that has the keyword dog or cat or both. Dog NOT cat will find all images which have the keyword dog but not the keyword cat. You can also search on multiple word key phrases by enclosing your search term in single quotes. For example the search term insect AND 'dung beetle' will return any images which has the keyword beetle and the exact phrase "dung beetle".

Try some of the following:

  • search using common and latin names, eg. barley and 'hordeum vulgare';
  • search using singular and plurals;
  • search using both noun and adjective, eg. toxin and toxic;
  • remember that keywords are not case sensitive.

Viewing Images

Images within any gallery or set of search results can be viewed in a number of ways:

  • hovering the mouse over an image will bring up a bigger version of that image;
  • clicking on the 'simple slideshow' icon below any image;
  • clicking on the image itself will bring up a large view of the image, along with detailed information about the image, purchase options and download options.

Low resolution 'comping' images can be downloaded for layout and mockup purposes. These images are free and contain an embedded watermark.

Users can:

  • select images from galleries and search results and collate them in a virtual lightbox;
  • create up to 10 lightboxes;
  • generate a pdf contact sheet of the images in a lightbox;
  • batch download all or selected images form a lightbox;
  • send the lightbox details to a friend or colleague by email;
  • drag and drop images within a lightbox.

Registered users can save their lightboxes for future use.
